Situation
A key supplier to a major manufacturer used cardboard boxes to ship engine blocks to that plant, causing considerable cardboard waste. After the freight was received, each box would need to be broken down, generating an unneeded drain on productivity. The manufacturer looked to Transfreight for help.
Solution
Transfreight designed a customized rack to ship the blocks. The racks would knock down and stack on one another for return transit. For every five trucks sent to the customer’s plant with blocks, only one would return with empty returnable containers.
Results
By reducing cardboard waste and eliminating box breakdown costs, Transfreight helped the customer realize savings in return truck cost of nearly $600,000 annually.
