Transfreight Commences LCV (Long Combination Vehicle) Operations

Kitchener, ON, October 28, 2010 – October 6, 2010 marked the dispatch of Transfreight’s first Long Combination Vehicle, or LCV as they are known in the transportation industry.

This vehicle is one of two LCV’s supporting the production at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC), Toyota’s assembly facility in Cambridge, Ontario.

An LCV consists of two 53 foot trailers connected to one another by a convertor dolly and pulled by one power unit, or tractor specifically designed for this demanding application.

“In addition to being extremely safe LCV’s improve transportation efficiency for our customers and support Transfreight’s commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of the services we provide”, said Marty Miller, Transfreight’s Chief Operating Officer.

As a member of the original LCV steering team Transfreight has been actively supporting the efforts of the Ontario Trucking Association and the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario to make LCV’s a reality in this province. Ontario now joins several other Canadian provinces already enjoying the economic and environmental benefits of LCV operations.
